Arsenal center-back William Saliba is close to sealing a loan to Nice from Ligue 1 for the remainder of the season.

With a £ 27 million signing in 2019, Saliba moved to Arsenal over the summer but has yet to play a single minute for Mikel Arteta’s senior team, and surprisingly was also omitted from the Gunners team for the Europa League.

A January departure always seemed likely, with some rumors even suggesting that Saliba could be sold permanently, but Good morning He claims that Saliba will only join Nice temporarily for the remainder of the campaign.

Importantly, there is no option to buy the 19-year-old, who will undergo his medical exam on Monday before putting the pen on the moving paper.

Nice are looking for a replacement for former Bayern Munich defender Dante, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury, so Saliba can expect a long time to play at the Allianz Riviera.

Adrian Ursea’s team is never afraid to give young players minutes. Malang Sarr, 21, was a regular before joining Chelsea in the summer, while Robson Bambu, 23, was the oldest of Nice’s three center-backs in his last game against Lorient.

It’s a move that will hopefully help Saliba rediscover her mojo. He knows the league well, having made 28 appearances for Saint-Etienne before joining Arsenal, and will be desperate to prove he is good enough for a top-tier team.

The teenager never managed to convince Arteta that he was ready by the minute and was never close to contention, despite the fact that Arsenal failed to impress on defense for the vast majority of the season thus far.

Saliba may not be the only center-back to leave the Emirates this month. Both Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos have been linked to moves outside the club, with Arteta willing to cut numbers on his team.
