Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at Leicester City on Saturday left their hopes of retaining the Premier League title in ruins.

Securing a place in the Champions League next season is now the height of their ambitions, although it would be a brave step to back them to achieve the feat.

However, given that the Reds could drop to sixth place at the end of the weekend, is it too early to start thinking that qualifying for the Europa League could be problematic?

Three consecutive league losses have left Liverpool looking nervously over their shoulders with a third of the season to go.

As it stands, Manchester City, Manchester United and Leicester look like good bets to claim the top three spots this season.

The Reds’ hopes of finishing in the top four are questionable, with Chelsea and Everton in the best position to take advantage of their demise.

That leaves Liverpool potentially battling West Ham United and Aston Villa for a European spot, while Tottenham Hotspur cannot be ruled out of the race either.

With Liverpool failing to meet the high standards they have set for themselves in recent years, their matchup suddenly looks more difficult than it would have been before.

Despite their recent form, matches against Fulham (H), Newcastle United (H), West Bromwich Albion (A) and Crystal Palace (H) should produce a good point return.

However, it becomes difficult to identify another match from his 10 remaining games in which he would confidently predict a Liverpool victory.

Matches against Southampton (H), Sheffield United (A) and Burnley (A) would normally be considered formalities for the Reds, but their current form makes those matches look much more complicated.

The upcoming home games against Everton, Villa and Chelsea also look tougher, while visits to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal, Leeds United and Man United will not be easy.

When the season began, Liverpool looked like the certainty of finishing in the top four: with 14 games to play, it would be difficult to predict that they will qualify for the Europa League.
