Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has been discussing a showdown he had with former Manchester United and Sheffield United midfielder Ravel Morrison in 2013.
The pair were involved in an international service showdown during a game between England’s Under-21 team and their Lithuanian counterparts.
Morrison put on a dazzling performance that night, scoring twice as the Young Lions took the winners 5-0, and the altercation took place as the pair walked back to their own half after the visitors received a goal kick.
During a recent edition of the ‘On Judy’s podcast, Zaha, who has since turned her international allegiance to the Ivory Coast, said: “[Morrison] It was driving me crazy. He moved as if he were Ronaldinho and the rest of us were nobody.
“He was getting the ball and he was just doing tricks and the only time he passes it [is] if you really need it.
“We stood there with our hands on our hips as he walked past six Lithuanian players, and it was like ‘what are you doing?’
“It was that easy, the team we had, we had such good players and we can all do that, we can all grab the ball and pass them to everyone, but we are not doing it. We are trying to be professional, to play correctly, but he was just doing his thing.
“I’ve had enough, I was like ‘what are you doing?’ and out of nowhere he pushed me. I’m like ‘are you stupid?’ so I pushed him back and it was silly on the field, then when you walk in the man goes silent. “
Once regarded as one of the greatest talents in English football, Morrison left Man Utd to join West Ham in 2012, but after several loan spells, he was released in 2015.
Since then, he has represented various clubs including Lazio, QPR, Atlas, Ostersunds, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and ADO Den Haag.
It’s a real shame to find yourself without a club at the age of 28, but it’s probably fair to say that your inability to fulfill your potential is not due to a lack of talent.
