Gini Wijnaldum has made it clear to Liverpool that he wants to extend his stay with the champions, provided his new contract reflects his position at the club, a report claims.

Wijnaldum’s The future at Anfield has been under the microscope since the summer with his contract expiring in June.

Starting today, the 30-year-old can engage in talks with clubs abroad, but 90min they claim that they have no desire to do so.

In fact, Wijnaldum’s “preference is to stay” but the bargain on the club table is not to his liking.

The Dutch star, who is one of Jurgen Klopp’s trusted generals, would like a contract that recognizes his position as one of the champions’ experienced players.

It is unclear which deal is on the table and whether the length of the potential deal or the financial aspect are the sticking point.

The report says that Liverpool’s owners, the FSG, are not interested in handing over a long-term, big-money deal to a player who turned 30 in November.

Wijnaldum was the subject of reports linking him to Barcelona last year.

In fact, Ronald Koeman confirmed his interest in his compatriot. Since then, Holland International has also been linked to a transfer by Inter Milan and wolves.

Jurgen Klopp’s stance hasn’t changed all the time. Wijnaldum has appeared in all 16 of the Reds’ Premier League outings in 2020/21 and is among Klopp’s group or among the top leaders alongside Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Virgil van Dijk.

Klopp’s stance

In November, Klopp said: “I would be happy if you stayed here.

“I am quite happy with Gini. You can see that when you watch most of the lineups! He always played well, that’s why he played so many games. And he has played many positions, different positions.

“He’s in a good time, thank God! Let it continue for a long time.

“There is nothing more to say about it. As long as nothing is decided, then everything is possible. I’m positive. “

The report says Klopp strongly believes Wijnaldum has several years left at the top.

The Guardian He recently reported that Wijnaldum asked the club for more time to think about his future. Probably with the aim of getting a better deal from Liverpool’s American owners.

The ball is firmly on FSG’s court, with Klopp and Wijnaldum chasing the same result.
