Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks remains linked to a transfer on loan to Valencia this month and José Mourinho must now consider promoting Harvey White to his first team to replace him.
According to Sky sports, the La Liga team is interested in signing the England international on loan this month, including a call option.
The 24-year-old has struggled to gain playing time in Mourinho’s first team so far this season, having made just seven top flight appearances for the Lilywhites, in which he has averaged a disappointing one. 6.34 rating.
During his time with the Spurs, Winks has made 159 first-team appearances but he has only managed to contribute three goals and three assists.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s summery arrival, combined with Tanguy Ndombele establishing himself as a regular, would likely always mean that the academy graduate was going to have to fight for minutes this season, so Mourinho should consider letting him join Valencia this month.
After all, the Lilywhites have a plethora of talent at their academy and it is possible that in the future they will eclipse Winks, so the north London club can afford to let the 24-year-old go.
Can white replace winks?
One academy talent who could replace the midfielder is Harvey White. The 19-year-old made his debut with the first team in the Europa League earlier in the season before playing 90 minutes into their 5-0 win against Marine in the FA Cup last weekend.
The midfielder has been in excellent shape with the U23 team this season, having contributed three goals and seven assists in just 11 appearances in Premier League 2, which suggests he’s ready to move up to the first team on a more regular basis.
The youngster could also be compared to Frank Lampard, whom Mourinho managed during his time at Chelsea, as like White, he was a serious goal threat from midfield, contributing 70 goals and 61 assists in 215 appearances under Mourinho for the Blues.
When White was rewarded with a new contract in 2020, London Football journalist Alasdair Gold was full of praise to the young man, saying:
“It’s really good to see Harvey White get a three-year deal. It shows how much the club values the teenager. Very versatile midfielder, very good tactically and with a great set piece. He has a bright future ahead of him. “
So it looks like the 19-year-old is rated very highly at Spurs and, like Lampard, is also recognized as a set pieces specialist, so if Winks leaves the club this month, White should be the one that replaces. him in Mourinho’s first team.
