What are the differences between all the versions?

Without a doubt, the Mercurial will still be one of the most visible pairs on the football field. But while the Elite version will be worn by the pros, what do the other versions look like?

Launched by Nike in 1998 to stick to the speed qualities of the Brazilian Ronaldo, the Mercurial has gained a wide reputation for all these years. Season after season, this model is for example at the top of the ranking of the most worn pairs. Whether in the low version which is the Vapor or high which is the Superfly, this pair cut for speed has proven itself thanks to technologies such as the Flyknit.

For 2021, it returns with an almost identical shape but yet equipped with new technologies. But because life isn’t just high-end, we’re talking about the entire Mercurial range. From the 270 € model to the 55 € model.

Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 Élite / Mercurial Superfly 8 Élite

It is the top-of-the-range silo model and therefore the one that brings together all the innovations. In addition to the new aesthetic of the pair, it is also and above all a new upper that is revealed with the arrival of the Vaporposite in place of Flyknit at 360 °. Of course the Flyknit does not disappear completely and is found at the level of the tongue but it is indeed this new material that allows us to eliminate unnecessary layers compared to previous generations. Still available in a low (Vapor) and high (Superfly) version, this Mercurial retains the technology Dynamic Fit at the neck and Aerotrack under the sole. The latter is nevertheless slightly modified with the arrival of a kind of spine between the two parts of the sole.

Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 Pro / Mercurial Superfly 8 Pro

Below the Elite range, the Pro version arrives. As always, the style remains quite close to the top-of-the-range model but it is the technologies that make the difference in terms of price. On the Pro range of the new Mercurial, it is for example the Vaporposite which disappears in favor of a much more classic synthetic upper. On the other hand, the Flyknit, the Nike Grip or the sole Aerotrack are still in place. At 140 € in its Vapor version and 150 € in Superfly, the Mercurial Pro remains a safe bet for mid-range football boots. The black point of this pair will be the absence of the SG Anti-Clog sole even though it is available on the Academy version…

Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 Academy / Mercurial Superfly 8 Academy

At 80 € in Vapor and 90 € in Superfly, the Academy version will once again be the one you will find the most in stores around the world. Praised by amateur players thanks to a price below the symbolic bar of 100 €, the Academy range is certainly endowed with a good quality / price ratio but does not have any particular technology. Like the variations of other brands at this price point, Nike retains something interesting for the price while offering an aesthetic close to that which we will see on the grounds at the feet of the pros. On the look side, we find the main lines of the new Mercurial and in particular this grid, but this time thanks to a print on the pair and not technologies. Apart from this textured upper, no technological innovation will be visible on the Academy range.

Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 Club / Mercurial Superfly 8 Club

The latest version of the Mercurial range, the club version is the entry level. At 55 € for the Vapor and 65 € for the Superfly, this variation does not have any technology. Unlike the Academy range for example, there is a single block sole on the Club version. A slight difference for some but which will inevitably make the pair lose momentum.
