West Ham United is reportedly preparing a play for Barcelona defender Junior Firpo, according to Mundo Deportivo journalist Miguel Rico (via Sports witness).
Firpo arrived at the Camp Nou in 2019 after spending five years at Real Betis, in a deal possibly amounting to 30 million euros. It was hoped that he could be Barcelona’s long-term replacement for aging Jordi Alba.
However, faith in the 24-year-old seems pretty low right now, and coach Ronald Koeman has given him just 29 minutes in the league this season. This has led to various rumors about his future, with reports suggesting that the Catalan giants would be willing to let the player go.
West Ham United have been named as possible receivers for the Spanish left-back, and journalist Miguel Rico stated that Napoli and Granada are also interested (via Sports witness).
West Ham are off to a pretty strong start to the 2020/21 campaign. After losing their first two Premier League matches, they have recovered excellently, winning six and losing just two of their last 11 league matches. This has put them in seventh place, just three points behind the top four.
The Hammers have reportedly been fans of the former Real Betis player for a while, as they have been linked to him since Manuel Pellegrini’s time in charge.
Current boss David Moyes has Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku vying for the left-back spot in his starting lineup. Although, he sometimes takes a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Cresswell playing as left center back and Masuaku as left back.
