It is highly unlikely that Kalvin Phillips will leave Leeds United for West Ham and will instead go to a “top, top club”, according to an expert.
The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the first names on the squad for his boys’ club and has become a regular English national team player. After his prominent form in Leeds‘back to the Premier League last season, he joined England’s European Championship 2020 squad.
Phillips has had tremendous success with injuries this campaign, but has returned in time to help Jesse Marsch’s team try to avoid relegation.
He will therefore have his eyes open for a return to the Three Lions squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
Further down the line, however, there is the question of his future on Elland Road. Phillips’ current deals run until 2024, and Leeds reportedly plan to offer him an extension.
Nevertheless, there is serious transfer interest for him, including from West Ham. Hammers made more than one bid for the midfielder in January and is reportedly planning another approach.
However, according to former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, West Ham are not the ideal next club for Phillips.

“No lack of respect for West ham but he would definitely like to play for a club that regularly plays in the Champions League.
“If he’s going to leave Leeds, then he’s going to be a top club.
“The Irons have had a few years, but they are not up there, and if Phillips is available, there will be competition.”

Kenny added, however, that he “just can’t see” Phillips moving to West Ham.
“He could even say no to them for staying in Leeds,” the expert said. “I’m not sure he will start the trouble of leaving if only West Ham come in.
“I just can not see him in a West Ham shirt, even if the big bid comes in.”
Leeds, West Ham face the midfielder’s dilemmas
While Phillips may soon become a sought-after man at Leeds, West Ham man Declan Rice is already in that position.
What’s more, his future with the Hammers is already much more uncertain than Phillips’s at Leeds.
Rice’s deal also expires in 2024 ahead of a one-year option for West Ham. Still, reports have claimed he has no plans to extend his contract.
Manchester United are stuck in the hunt for the 23-year-old. They are preparing to lose Paul Pogba as a free agent.
Chelsea are also long-term admirers of Rice after rejecting him as a youth player, though their current off-field problems make a switch from the Blues unclear.
