West Ham United is believed to be interested in signing Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard.

The 20-year-old midfielder is highly rated throughout Europe and is considered one of the most exciting talents in the Italian League at the moment.

The midfielder has two goals and four assists to his name so far this season and has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs.

According to Daily star Tottenham Hotspur was initially named as a possible suitor for the player, but players like Southampton, Leeds United and the Hammers have now also joined the chase.

The 20-year-old signed for Sampdoria in a £ 5.2 million deal last summer and it remains to be seen whether the Italian team is prepared to sanction his sale after just one season at the club.

The Denmark international has enormous potential and could become a key player for David Moyes if the Hammers can sign him.

Vista SL: Replacement for Lanzini?

Argentine midfielder Manuel Lanzini has been linked with a move away from the Hammers in recent weeks and Damsgaard could be his long-term replacement.

It remains to be seen whether the London club can fend off competition from its Premier League rivals and secure the services of the 20-year-old in the coming months.

Sampdoria is likely to demand a premium if it is forced to part with its services in the summer. That being said, the Hammers recently sold Sebastien Haller and have yet to reinvest the money.

Londoners certainly have the wherewithal to squander the exciting midfielder at the end of this season.
