West Ham has confirmed that Michail Antonio has signed a new three-year contract at London Stadium.
The 30-year-old has become the Hammers’ most valuable and important asset since David Moyes was re-elected as coach, excelling in the role of center forward after spending most of his career on the wing.
Antonio’s goal scoring towards the end of the 2019/20 season was key to keeping West Ham in the Premier League, and he even scored four goals in one game as the Hammers defeated relegation rivals Norwich City 4-0 on Carrow Road.
Hamstring problems have hampered Antonio’s 2020/21 campaign, but he remains an important figure for West Ham and has helped the club reach the top half of the table after impressing alongside Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals in the top three positions.
For his efforts, he has now been rewarded with a new contract, confirmed by the club in his official website. Speaking of his new contract, Antonio said: “I got eight goals in a month, so I have two and a half years to see how many more I can get and how far I can go!
“I definitely want to get to the 50 goal mark in the Premier League and see how I can continue from there.
“I’ve been here for five and a half years, this season it will be six and when my contract expires it will be eight years. Before signing here, the longest I had been in a club was two years, so it shows that I have been here, I have done my job, I have been able to secure my position and continue to grow as a player ”.
The news of Antonio’s new contract is the perfect way to round out a calendar year that has netted him 12 times in 23 appearances. Furthermore, he has become one of the most feared forwards in the Premier League at the time, with his breakneck pace and unrivaled work rate constantly putting defenders under pressure.
