West Ham have apparently been given the green light to pursue a deal for Gerard Deulofeu after Udinese president put Hammers at an affordable price.
David Moyes’ team has enjoyed another excellent season and at one point seemed to be strong pursuers of a Champions League place. However, a drop in form in the Premier League means it seems to narrowly avoid them. In fact, Tottenham currently occupy fourth place, with Arsenal three points left in fifth place and West Ham another three below them in sixth place.
Nevertheless, it has been a satisfying season for Moyes and Co. And it could be even better if they can pick up a win against Lyon in their Europa League quarter-finals this week. In fact, the victory in the Europa League would not only make the Hammers lift a trophy, but also book a place in the Champions League.
Anyway, West ham will continue their efforts to return to European competition next season via the Premier League. That said, they may be a little bit handicapped by a smaller team than many of their rivals.
An area in which West Ham have lacked opportunities is under attack. While the Hammers boast a number of talented strikers, the lack of coverage at No. 9 remains a concern.
In fact, they have been trying and failing to fill that gap ever since Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax cheaply. For the purpose people like Youssef En-Nesyri and recently Darwin Nunez has been mentioned as a possible target.
Besides, TEAMtalk Sources understand that the club is also keeping an eye on Alexandre Lacazette’s situation at Arsenal.
Another name that is constantly popping up is Deulofeu, the former Barcelona, Milan and Everton star.
Pact made to sell Deulofeu
Currently in Udinese, he moved to Stadio Frieli in the summer of 2020.
A fast and skilled player, Deulofeu has done well in Italy and scored 10 times in 26 matches this season.
However, the player’s time in Udine is coming to an end this season. The club’s owner, Gino Pozzo, reportedly has a pact with the 28-year-old’s agent to move him on this summer.
It is an attitude that has been confirmed by The Italian journalist Matteo Moretto. He claims that because of his low salary, he is allowed to move on this summer.
He currently earns just £ 48,000 a week – an income he could comfortably increase by moving back to England.
Moreover, he is being branded as an ‘easy signing’ for suitors West Ham amid allegations of a low price. In fact, according to Moretto, Pozzo is asking between £ 12.5m and £ 15m for the forward.
And the reporter concludes that teams in England are already asking about Deulofeu. And it all seems to point to a switch to West Ham for the four-time Spanish star, who has 73 career goals to date.
Moyes addresses West Ham striker shortage
Moyes himself has never hidden that West Ham need more striking opportunities.
Speaking openly about their failure in January, Moyes said: “It would be unfair [just to mention West Ham]. I think a lot of clubs did not buy players in January.
“We were very serious about trying to bring players to the club in January, but for various reasons it did not happen.”
Looking at the rest of the season, Moyes said last month: “We know we’re a little bit missing where we want to be, the team I have at the moment has done a brilliant job over the last two years and I have no reason to believe that they will not do a brilliant job in the next three months between now and the end of the season. “
