Andre Villas-Boas’s comments following Marseille’s loss to PSG at the Trophee des Champions tonight were straight out of José Mourinho’s handy phrasebook.
Villas-Boas worked alongside Mourinho during The Special One’s time in charge of Chelsea and Porto. At the time, he was a fresh-faced young coach vying to make it into a game in which he had no professional playing career.
The now 43-year-old, who is still young to be a coach, even if it feels like he’s been around for some time, seems to have learned a thing or two from his former teacher – at least these comments after the Trophee in Marseille. The defeat of the Champions certainly suggests it.
Villas-Boas quotes, as reported by Loic tanzi, translate as:
“I have nothing to say to my players, we were the best team. The best honor that PSG gives us is the party they have ”.

We’ve heard this before, haven’t we? Also recently.
the Daily mail reported after Tottenham’s loss to Liverpool in December that Mourinho had told Jurgen Klopp in a post-match exchange that “the best team lost.”
Villas-Boas has adopted the same mentality as his master tonight, even if Marseille was quite toothless to a consolation in the 89th minute from Dimitri Payet.
