The duo welcomed Sloane Phillips, who was born on Friday, to their family with posts on social media.
The stars of the United States women’s national team, Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger, have announced that they have adopted a girl.
Harris and Krieger, who play for the Orlando Pride side of the NWSL, tied the knot in December 2019 and have now confirmed their newest addition, baby Sloane, who was born on Friday.
The couple are now joining Alex Morgan, who gave birth to their baby in May 2020, as mothers at the USWNT.
What Harris and Krieger said
“Welcome to our family, Sloane Phillips … we are already so in love with you!” Krieger said on Instagram. “This has been one of the most beautiful and stressful processes I have ever experienced with you, Ashlyn Harris, and I love you even more throughout this journey, if that’s possible.
“When we first dated, we always talked about adoption and we always wanted to give a child a loving, happy and stable home. I can’t wait to give him the world and be the best mom that can be with you by my side.”
Harris added: “My heart is exploding with joy. We did it baby! All the ups and downs, tears, stress and anxiety were worth it to have this beautiful blessing in our arms.
“Thank you to our wonderful family, friends, agency, teammates and coaches who have fully supported us during this process and now we are SO PROUD to share it with the world!
“To all my adoptive families. Wow, we see you. Wow, this has been a very stressful process. I am hoping to tell our story one day, but for now … we can breathe again.”
Duo left the SheBelieves Cup roster
Krieger, a right-back, and Harris, a goalkeeper, were dropped from the USWNT roster for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, which begins Thursday.
His absence from the list initially drew attention, but head coach Vlatko Andonovski said at the time: “I don’t think we should read it at all.”
Their adoption of Sloane could possibly explain why they won’t represent the United States in the tournament, which also features Argentina, Brazil and Canada.
