Baker Mayfield says he feels “not respected” by the Cleveland Browns after they switched to Deshaun Watson last month, effectively ending Mayfield’s tenure after four seasons as the team’s starting quarterback.

“One hundred percent,” Mayfield said on the “YNK” podcast released Wednesday. “I was told one thing and they did something completely different.”

Mayfield covered a number of topics on the podcast, including where he could play next.

Although Mayfield remains on the Browns’ list, the team is actively seeking to replace him. Mayfield said the Seattle Seahawks, who swapped star quarterback Russell Wilson out with the Denver Broncos this offseason, were “probably the most likely option” for him.

“Even then, no idea,” said Mayfield, who is under contract for 2022 to $ 18.9 million – fully guaranteed – after the Browns picked up his fifth-year option last year. “I’m ready for the next chapter.”

Mayfield requested a swap on March 17, two days after Brown owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, general manager Andrew Berry and coach Kevin Stefanski flew to Houston to meet with Watson in an attempt to convince him to give up his no- trade clause.

On March 18, the Watson Browns reported that he chose them over the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.

Watson is still facing 22 civil lawsuits from women who have accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, and he said during his inaugural press conference with the Browns on March 25 that he “never assaulted any woman” or “disrespect for anyone. woman.”

When the Browns officially move on from Mayfield, he will, according to ESPN Stats & Information, only become the third quarterback in NFL history to become No. 1 overall in the draft and last four or fewer seasons with the team that drafted him. JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) and Jeff George (Colts).

“I have really, really, honestly not regretted my time in Cleveland what I was trying to give that place,” Mayfield said. “True Clevelanders and true Browns fans know that.”

After the quarterback of the Browns for their first playoff victory in 26 years in 2020, Mayfield struggled last season while playing through a torn labrum in his left shoulder without throwing himself. He eventually finished in 27th place in the league in QBR when the Browns finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs.

“I would be lying to you if I did not say I was caught up in all the negative and stuff like that over the last year,” said Mayfield, who was dented during a 13-10 home win over the then undefeated. Detroit Lions on November 21st.

Mayfield sustained a shoulder injury in Week 2 against the Houston Texans. He only missed one game after aggravating the injury a month later, though he also sat out the season finale when the Browns had already been eliminated from the postseason.

Mayfield said the shoulder injury was particularly severe because of how it affected his game both physically and mentally.

“I tried to be tough and fight my way through it, but so physically I was not so able to do what I normally would [do], “said Mayfield.” When I was not performing on the field, that was when it really started to go downhill. Because I can hard it, I do not care, I do not intend to complain about it, as if everyone is beaten up. But then it started to hinder my game and go downhill, that was when I was like, oh s —.

“That was when I started to lose my self-confidence and lose myself. The last year was hard. That was it. It was hard for me, my family. It was sad because I knew what I could do, but I was not physically in a position to do that. “

After pointing out that he had played for four different head coaches in four years, Mayfield said he was “just looking for stabilization” no matter where he ends up next.

“I know what I need to do to be the best version of myself and be able to lead an organization,” Mayfield said. “I’m in a good place right now.”
