Thomas Tuchel believes that Timo Werner’s goal against Newcastle United will give the Chelsea forward the “last percentage of faith”.
Werner ended his wait for the first Premier League goal since the November 7 win over Sheffield United, scoring Chelsea’s second in a routine 2-0 victory.
The former RB Leipzig striker had set up the first goal for Olivier Giroud and doubled the lead by scoring for the first time in 1,000 minutes and following a streak of 31 unsuccessful attempts.
“For the strikers, the last percentage of belief comes from the goals,” Tuchel told a news conference.
“He worked very hard, he was very decisive. Again today with an assist and a goal, this is a super, super point for him. “
Tuchel, however, believed that Chelsea were not ruthless enough in the area, and pointed to it as a key area for improvement with matches against Atletico Madrid and Manchester United on the horizon.
He told Sky Sports: “I liked the first half where we played bravely and had a lot of touches in the area and a lot of shots, 12 to three and we kept them away from our area and we didn’t allow any chances.
“Throughout the game we lacked precision in the area and decision-making can be deadlier, more precise and decisive to create more of our half chances.”

The victory places Chelsea in the top four, with Werner eager to keep the focus on the team rather than the end of his miserable career in front of goal.
“The first half was very good of us, we played very well,” Werner told Sky Sports. “Happy to have finally scored and there is still a long way to go, but if we continue like this it will be a good ending for us.
“As a forward you always want to score, the last month was tough, I wasn’t happy with not scoring. But it is a team sport, when we win everything is fine. Helping my team with assists and happy to have scored today.
“For a striker it’s worse when you can’t get into the right situations and have the chances. I had many occasions that I lost, my team brought me many situations in which today I was able to score, when I continue, the goals will come like today and the assists too ”.
