A Chelsea deal for a central goal has failed after talks with Thomas Tuchel, while Harry Kane sees a big new contract at Tottenham – both in all the recent Paper Talk.
CHELSEA, SAUL – TRANSFER FALLS THROUGH
Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez will not sign at Chelsea this summer after talks with boss Thomas Tuchel hit a major roadblock, a report claims.
The 26-year-old Spaniard has been the subject of major transfer speculation all summer. In fact, he has been frustrated by his lack of a unique role in Madrid, Diego Simeone instead of using him as an auxiliary player. As such, Liverpool emerged as the first candidates.
However, Jurgen Klopp certainly ruled out a move to another midfielder earlier this month, leaving Manchester United and Chelsea in the race.
However, United have signed Cristiano Ronaldo again and their consumption should now finally end after the shock transfer on Friday.
According to 90 minutes, Chelsea had come close to signing Saul, but that progress has ultimately proved fruitless and the move has collapsed.
In fact, Chelsea had agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid, and a clause about a future move for the midfielder was the only issue to be sorted out.
But the lack of assurance from Blues manager Tuchel about his playing time has now seen Saul refuse the transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have an abundance of midfield talents including Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. With such players established in the lineup of European champions, Saul would have a hard time forcing himself into the team in the long run.
As a result, 90 minutes adds that Saul is likely to stay at Atletico, with whom he signed a nine-year contract in 2017.
