Tottenham Hotspur are having a hard time in the Premier League. Last week’s 2-1 loss to London’s West Ham was the fifth in their last six games.
While José Mourinho remains confident in his training methods, it appears the Spurs could take drastic measures if results do not improve in the next fortnight.
According to reports from The TelegraphSpurs will “put” RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann “at the top of a target list” to replace Mourinho if lousy form continues.
The Portuguese coach apparently faces 12 crucial days to save his job. The results in this period will determine his fate and will also give an indication as to whether the club will take action to appoint Nagelsmann.
The Leipzig manager is open to joining Spurs at the end of the season, but is not ready to leave mid-term, which could give Mourinho time to turn things around.
Nagelsmann is seen as one of the most exciting young coaches in world football right now. Many Spurs fans have reacted to the news on Twitter:
Omg please

Levy is not paying £ 30 million to fire Mourinho. And if it does, that’s our transfer budget for a missing player.

100% what is a new coach going to do with that squad 🤷🏻♂️

It must be worth investing in the coach, Pep and Klopp were, Mourinho clearly not.

Throwing money at Jose to build a squad will be a lot more expensive than firing him, like a few hundred miles more.

Spurs are on track to advance to the Europa League round of 16 against Wolfsberger, but it’s their form in the Premier League that is really worrying. Mourinho suggested after the loss to the Hammers that mathematically they still have a chance to break into the top four, but it seems difficult at the moment.
A loss in either game to Burnley, Fulham and Palace would be a serious blow to their top-four ambitions. The Telegraph claims that even winning the Carabao Cup against Manchester City may not guarantee Mourinho’s job next season, especially if he exits the Europa League and fails to achieve a top-four result.
Brendan Rodgers is another alternative option for Spurs, but it will be very difficult for the North London club to push him away.
In other news, BBC expert Clinton Morrison has claimed that Spurs could lose Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min if they fail to secure Champions League football next season.
