Danish Scarlett is rumored to be on the move this summer, with Tottenham wanting the striker to promote his development in the Championship, according to a report.
The 18-year-old is set to be on the move this summer with a number of clubs looking to bolster their strike force for their upcoming campaigns.
Scarlett has been in and around Tottenham’s first team since Jose Mourinho first played against him in the Europa League when he was just 16 years old. But since then, the young player has only been sparse since the arrival of new boss Antonio Conte.
Spurs were reportedly contacted by Bournemouth last year regarding the availability of Scarlett. But the club rejected the approach as they wanted guarantees over his playing time.
According to Football.London, North London plans to loan the striker out to ‘promote his development’ next season. Spurs would like to be able to give Scarlett guaranteed minutes so his development does not stagnate.
Approach from the championship is expected, although the report notes that League One may be the better route. The example of striker colleague Troy Parrott’s dismal loan stay in the Championship with Millwall is quoted.
Parrott fought in the second row, not scoring a single goal across 11 league games. Avoiding that mistake another time can be thought of as Spurs with Scarlett.
The striker has played a few appearances for the senior team this year, with the majority of them coming under former manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.
The striker was always present in the squad of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League campaign. But their progress in Europe stalled as their team could not field a team against the Stade Rennais due to COVID-19 implications.
Because of this, they lost their eighth match by 3-0, allowing the Stade Rennais to advance without having to lift a finger.
The 18-year-old’s few cameos throughout the season have been far from remarkable. Scarlett has taken a step back and is now back in U23’s set-up and it looks like he will stay there until it is potentially loaned out.
Football.London also understands that Spurs may be in the market for another striker to support star man Harry Kane this summer. If a deal becomes a reality, a loan deal will be crucial to Scarlett’s development, as he will be even further down the line.
Speech praises Scarlett
Although the striker is apparently in disfavor with Conte, the Italian had nothing but praise for the development and promise Scarlett has shown recently.
“I see a lot of improvement today in (Danish) Scarlett honestly, if I have to tell you, ”Conte said via Football.London.
“When he sees this guy improve a lot, he’s only 17 years old, but I can tell you he’s a really important prospect. Tottenham,
“He needs to be patient and work behind these very important players and keep working this way, because about Scarlett I can tell you that I see a bright future for him.”
Tottenham’s next match is one of the biggest of their season as they take on Liverpool on Saturday. The Spurs are two points out of the top four and will no doubt throw everything they have to get a result out of the match.
Qualifying for next season’s Champions League may depend on securing a positive result against the title-chasing Reds.
