Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has given injuries a double boost ahead of the club’s Champions League round of 16 against Atlético Madrid.

The Blues recently drew 1-1 against Southampton on the road and that ended a four-game winning streak in the Premier League.

They are scheduled to face Atlético in Bucharest on Tuesday night and, before the game, Tuchel revealed some positive news on the injury front.

Kai Havertz has completely overcome his blow suffered earlier this month and is in line to face Diego Simeone’s side alongside Christian Pulisic.

The United States international missed the recent trip to St Mary’s as a precaution for a calf problem, but is available for the midweek clash at the National Arena.

“I am very happy that Kai and Christian are in the group. They trained with us before and had no complaints. They will travel with us and are on the squad for tomorrow ”. Tuchel said Chelseafc.com.

Meanwhile, Thiago Silva will not travel with the squad for the European tie despite returning to training after a thigh injury.

The Brazilian is expected to continue working on his fitness at the Cobham training center, Tuchel added: “He’s training right now, while we leave shortly.”

Sports lens view:

Havertz and Pulisic have barely played with Tuchel due to injuries and are likely to start on the bench during tomorrow’s European tie in Romania.

However, Silva’s unavailability is definitely a blow to the club, given that he has proven to be a quality leader and has commanded proceedings from behind.

In his absence, one of Kurt Zouma or Andreas Christensen could accompany Antonio Rudiger and club captain César Azpilicueta in the last three.

Judging from Tuchel’s praise for Zouma in the pre-match press conference, seems the most likely candidate to start against Atlético, which is La Liga leader.
