Thiago Silva’s superb first-half double block to deny West Ham last night summed up just how titanic it has been for Chelsea of late.
Anyone who has questioned how much he had left to offer Silva after he signed for Chelsea at the age of 35 has received answers to those questions and how.
Silva has been the best defender in the Premier League so far this season, in the absence of Liverpool center-back Virgil Van Dijk, who is out in the long run.
The fact that Chelsea managed to acquire it for free seems like a masterstroke, with their performance in last night’s 3-0 win over West Ham the latest in a series of flawless displays.
There was a moment in the first half that is worth noting, with Silva first parrying a ball in the box with a clever interception and then taking one to the stomach to block a shot.
What absolute power!
