Reports claim Manchester City are now in the mix to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich and could have all the aces to seal the deal.
Praise, 28, will be out of contract next summer, so he’s free to speak to foreign clubs in January. Talks about a new contract have not borne fruit and it looks like he will be leaving the Allianz Arena.
Several possible suitors have been mentioned, and Real Madrid is known to be interested. The Manchester United name was thrown into the hat too, but that particular avenue may have closed.
Chelsea and Liverpool They are also known fans, but City may have outdone the duo in their search. It was mentioned that the Etihad team had an interest earlier this week, but Football transfers they have expanded on that.
Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the Austrian international and there was a possibility of a deal last summer. The player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, suggested a deal to trade Alaba with City’s Leroy Sane.
That did not materialize and Alaba reported that he felt ‘underrated’ with that scenario. But now it is said that Guardiola will allow Alaba to play in midfield if he moves to Manchester.
Traditionally a left-back, the Vienna-born ace is known to favor a midfield spot and could be a deal breaker. There is no news from City but Guardiola has “a good relationship” with the star.
The versatile player is now believed to be “more open” to a move to City. But Real is leading the race while Paris Saint-Germain is another possibility.
Guardiola is unlikely to have a forced hand
It seems obvious that City would want a player of Alaba’s class. However, it is open to debate whether a coach from Guardiola’s position would guarantee any player a spot in midfield.
The Spanish will always do the right thing for the club. Therefore, talking about Alaba having an automatic place in midfield should be taken with a pinch of salt.
He would need to earn his place at the side and that is never easy with talent in sight.
Spain seems the most likely destination for a player who is entering his best years. Barcelona have been linked in the past but it is not known if the Catalans are still interested.
Bayern are next in action on Sunday when they host Mainz. The transfer window will be open by then and thoughts will turn to Alaba’s future.
