Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is reportedly the subject of interest for Italian giants Juventus and former club Manchester City, according to the Birmingham Post.
Luiz joined Aston Villa from Manchester City last summer for £ 15m following his promotion to the Premier League. Since then, he has become an influential player at Villa Park, participating 51 times in all competitions.
This form has apparently caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with ties to a return to Manchester City re-emerging. The Birmingham Post reported in November that Man City was looking to re-sign the Brazilian, who has a reported £ 30 million buyback clause in his contract.
A defensive midfielder could come in handy for the Cityzens as they will look for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, who is now 35 years old. Former Atlético de Madrid player Rodri is already at the club, but manager Pep Guardiola often likes to rotate his starting eleven, so there will be no shortage of playing time should Luiz return to the Etihad.
However, Man City has also been linked to a move by Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria, and it remains to be seen which one they will prioritize.
Meanwhile, Sports witness claims the Aston Villa midfielder is one of the few on Juventus’ radar, alongside Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli and Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira.
Coach Andrea Pirlo may be looking for a complete defensive midfielder to add to his side. Sami Khedira is now 33 and has been involved in moving, while Weston McKennie is only on loan for now.
It has not been an ideal start in life as Pirlo’s coach. Despite remaining undefeated in the league, they are in fourth place, six points behind league leaders AC Milan.
