Rangers won 4-1 yesterday over Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, and Steven Gerrard’s men are closing in on the league title now.
Celtic were beaten yesterday by Ross County and the Ibrox team only need seven more points to secure the national crown.
Gerrard has now sent an important message to his players that they cannot afford to get carried away too soon and that they will have to get the job done first.
The Rangers boss said that the players have not won anything yet and that they will have to finish the job with concentration and determination.
He said to Daily mail: “I think it is normal to think, I do not think there is any harm in thinking. But the only thing I won’t do is get carried away too soon.
“We just have to finish the job. The games are there for us, the opportunity is there for us, but the great reminder to me, the staff, the players, the fans and anyone else who covers us is that we haven’t won anything yet.
“The main thing that has pleased me at the moment is that the players are really in the zone. I can see the focus, I can see the determination. Today’s great reminder is that it is another positive result, another great step, but we still have work to do.
Gerrard will know all about losing a title from a favorable position after going through that situation himself as a Liverpool player.
The Rangers are now 18 points clear at the top of the table and have yet to lose in the league this season. It’s fair to assume that the title race is over for Celtic.
Defensive organization has been the key to the Rangers’ success this season, and Ibrox’s team will look forward to its chances of finishing the season undefeated in the league. It would be a great achievement for the players and for Gerrard.
The Scottish side have also been quite impressive in the Europa League and are on their way to reaching the knockout stages of that competition.
