Journalist Duncan Castles has claimed to have revealed an impressive reference to Liverpool’s rumored target Sven Botman from one of his teammates.
The Reds They are reportedly targeting a new center-back signing this month to fill the injury gap.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all on the sidelines, the top two for a while longer.
As such, recent reports have named several players Liverpool are interested in onboarding. Lille star Botman is among the most recent additions to that list in the midst of his brilliant season.
The 20 year old The Dutchman has played every minute of Lille’s 17 Ligue 1 games to help the club sit second in the top flight alongside Lyon.
According to Castles, talks between Liverpool and Lille on a deal are underway. In addition, the journalist claimed to have revealed José Fonte’s perspective on his central colleague, which includes a comparison with that of Van Dijk and Tottenham. Toby Alderweireld.
“Another thing that I think will be interesting for Liverpool fans is that Botman plays alongside veteran Portuguese defender José Fonte in Lille this season,” Castles told the Transfer Window Podcast.
Fonte has played with a variety of top center-backs in his career, including Virgil van Dijk, Toby Alderweireld, Pepe on the Portuguese national team and Gabriel last season, who is now at Arsenal.
From what I understand from Fonte’s impression of Botman, he thinks he’s the best of all.
“He describes him as a machine and a man who does not make mistakes and also indicates that for a young player who plays alongside an experienced professional, he is very open to learning, receiving instructions and improving his game.”
Castles not surprised by Liverpool’s interest
Castles added that it is not surprising to see Liverpool show interest in Botman.
“These are attributes that you look for in a signing and they are the type of attributes that Liverpool have been very focused on when recruiting players in the past,” he said.
“You can see why they have talks there, and you can see, from a cost perspective, why it seems like a good fit for that January deal.”
Botman joined Lille in the summer from Ajax’s under-21 qualification, such is the excitement surrounding his impressive performances this period.
