PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles and Jason Kelce have agreed a new $ 14 million contract, a confirmed source, making him the highest paid center in the league.
Kelce, who had considered retiring, announced Thursday that he would return for his 12th NFL season.
The NFL Network was the first to report the deal.
The contract is structured in the same way as the $ 9 million deal he signed last year, said sources who act as a one-year deal but with money spread over several years for ceiling purposes.
The Eagles did everything they could to encourage Kelce, who has been retiring over the last many free seasons, to play another year. Coach Nick Sirianni even sat a barrel of beer at Kelce’s home to smear him up. In a video posted on social media on Thursday, Kelce took a long sip from a beer being poured out of the barrel before announcing his return, saying he was having “too much fun” to step away.
Kelce, 34, continues to play at a high level. He was named First Team All-Pro for the fourth time in his 2021 career while making his fifth Pro Bowl. He ranked seventh in pass block payout rate (95.7%) and fourth in run block payout rate (72.2%) among centers in 2021, according to ESPN polls driven by NFL Next Gen Stats.
