Napoli is showing interest in Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour, according to reports in Italy.
Gilmour made his way into Chelsea’s first team last season, two years after joining their academy. The Scottish Under-21 international has 12 senior appearances to his name for the Blues.
However, he has yet to appear in the Premier League this season. Chelsea spent a lot in the summer transfer window, thus reducing opportunities for some of their younger players.
Gilmour’s own prospects for a good start to the season ended even before then, as he had to undergo surgery for a knee injury. Now however Lampard has welcomed him with gratitude.
Gilmour will be willing to continue to prove himself when he has opportunities, but he may have to be away from Stamford Bridge any time soon.
According to Calciomercato.it, Napoli is interested in the 19-year-old. The Serie A club has been monitoring Gilmour since last season and is still thinking of signing him.
Napoli explores the loan formula
The report claims that Napoli would like to take Gilmour on loan in January, to see how he fits in. If successful, they might consider a permanent transfer.
Chelsea, however, may not be as willing to let Gilmour go. Therefore, they could include a buyback clause in any potential sale.
Napoli are looking for another reinforcement in midfield to replace Stanislav Lobotka, whose transfer to Italy has not worked.
The Azzurri have already signed Tiemoue Bakayoko on loan from Chelsea to reinforce that department in the summer. And, if these reports are to be believed, they might be ready to attack the Blues again.
