Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has praised Bruno Fernandes, but doesn’t feel the team relies too much on the striker.

FernandesThe 26-year-old has reinvigorated United’s fortunes since singing from Sporting in January 2020. The Portugal international scored 12 goals in all competitions in the second half of last season.

And he’s found the net 19 times this season, with 14 of those coming in the league. However, it’s not just his goal production that sets him apart.

The midfielder is creative and hard-working, giving a push to the winger when he runs out onto the field. There is no doubt that he has been the best singer of the Red Devils in years and one that could bring you silverware.

Scholes certainly enjoyed success during his 19 seasons at the Theater of Dreams. He claimed 18 major trophies and won 66 games for England.

Fernandes has been compared to the ace born in Oldham. Scholes does not see him but feels that he is an outstanding player at the club.

“He is different from me,” he told United. official website. “I played on it [number 10] position for a while, but I was never as creative or scored as many goals as he was in that position.

“Obviously I played a deeper role than him, but you have to look at his numbers and what he’s doing is sensational.

“We just need to have a team around him that can keep going to win the league.”

United is not a one-man team

United are second in the Premier League table, seven points behind Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side has a game in hand and the title may be beyond Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men this season.

Fernandes has started 23 of United’s 24 league games in 2020-2021. It has appeared in all of them and has justified a high price.

Many in the media feel that Solskjaer is too dependent on the former Sampdoria player. Scholes disagrees and feels that he is simply performing exactly as he should.

“Are we too dependent on him? No, I don’t think so, ”he added. “That is his role in the team. You have to remember that United paid a lot of money for this type of player.

“He is a player whose job is to create goals and score goals. Now it is doing better than we imagine. Other players must step up now. “
