LAS VEGAS – A lawyer for former Las Vegas Raiders player Henry Ruggs told a judge that he has received body-worn camera video from police who arrived after a high-speed crash that killed a woman.
Ruggs did not have to appear in court Thursday with his attorney, David Chesnoff, ahead of a preliminary hearing on March 10 that will determine whether Ruggs faces a lawsuit in state court.
Outside court, Chesnoff said he had not yet seen all of the November 2 video footage of the crash.
Ruggs, 23, a former NFL draft pick in the first round, is under house arrest with electronic GPS and alcohol monitors. He faces criminal driving under the influence and reckless driving that will give him two years in prison and possibly more than 50 years in prison if convicted. He is also charged with possession of a weapon.
The Raiders released Ruggs hours after the wreck and vehicle fire before dawn, killing 23-year-old Tina Tintor and wounding Ruggs and his girlfriend, Kiara Je’nai Kilgo-Washington.
Ruggs is accused of driving 156 mph (251 km / h) with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit of Nevada before his Chevrolet Corvette crashed into Tintor’s vehicle on a residential boulevard.
