Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman provided positive injury news ahead of the Champions League round of 16 first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the Camp Nou.
The Blaugrana have been in very good shape in La Liga, and are undefeated in the last 12 league games where they have lost points only twice.
Their only setback came in 2021 with a 2-0 loss to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg, but they will have a chance to overcome the deficit at the Camp Nou.
On Tuesday night, the Blaugrana will return to European action against Les Parisiens, and Koeman delivered some positive news on the injury front before the game.
Piqué has been out with a serious knee injury since November, but Koeman expressed confidence that the central defender could play against Les Parisiens.
Said at a press conference quoted by the club’s official website:
“Gerard has been training with the group and we are confident. Been out for a while and tomorrow [Tuesday] We will decide if it is in the template or not. If a player is on the team, then he has a chance to play ”.
Sports lens view:
The Catalan giants have cut and changed their central defensive association in recent months, with Ronald Araujo, Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza, Frenkie de Jong and Samuel Umtiti at the heart of the backline.
Araujo has been ruled out for tomorrow’s tie with an ankle injury, and Koeman can go with the combination of Lenglet and De Jong, who have started in recent league games.
Piqué has returned to regular training sessions, but it is highly unlikely that he could be drafted directly into the starting lineup, although he cannot be completely ruled out.
Meanwhile, Les Parisiens will be left without key stars in Neymar and Angel Di Maria due to injuries and the Blaugrana need to make the most of it tomorrow and gain an advantage in the first leg.
