Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he wishes Manchester United had signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he left Borussia Dortmund, but claims his current form for Arsenal is a major concern.
Aubameyang joined the Gunners in a then club record change of £ 56m in January 2018. In his three years at the club, he has scored 75 goals in 126 appearances.
However, since signing a new contract this summer, Aubameyang has been seriously lost in front of goal. However, the Gabon forward has just three goals to his name this season. Mikel Arteta hopes that he will soon return to his best level.
However, Ferdinand remains a huge fan of the forward and has revealed that he wished he had signed for United.
“What is the problem with Aubameyang? How has he gone from being one of the most powerful strikers in the Premier League if not in Europe to what he is doing now?
“How was that? It is not the Aubameyang that I know. I don’t know how the Arsenal fans are defending him, ”he told the FIVE YouTube channel.
“That is the most important thing for Mikel Arteta, the most important thing Arteta must do now is for him to play again.
“He has all these young and exciting prospects, you just want Aubameyang to be there doing his thing too.”
Ferdinand added: “I love Aubameyang, I think he is an incredible player that I would love in my team. I would have loved if Manchester United bought him before he went to Arsenal. I think he’s a great player, a great player and a ridiculous spiker.
“What he did last season was unrivaled, but this season Arsenal need him to fire as soon as possible.”

Arteta plans Lacazette talks
While Aubameyang was not on the scoresheet last time, the 4-0 victory at West Brom showed that Arsenal could have turned the corner.
That victory was helped by two more goals from fit Alexandre Lacazette.
In total, Lacazette has scored nine times this season to get the clear as his leading scorer. But with his contract expiring in 18 months, Gunners boss Arteta confirmed that his future will be resolved at the end of the season.
“We will speak in the summer and make a decision about what is going to happen,” Arteta said.
“We have not discussed anything related to his contract. I am delighted with his performance, the goals he is scoring and the form and energy he is in at the moment. You need to keep doing that. “
Lacazette it was Arsenal’s record signing at the time when he came from Lyon for £ 46.5m in 2017. He has scored 57 goals in 146 games for the club.
