Rio Ferdinand has warmly praised Declan Rice and ruled the future of the West Ham star amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Rice has been strongly linked with a move to a Champions League caliber club after impressing for West Ham in recent years.
Man Utd would be a prime suitor if the 21-year-old was on the go. They have given a platform to several homegrown players, either from their own academy or from other clubs, in recent years.
It was recently stated that United would make a move for Rice at the end of the season.. However, that may be a gamble, since Chelsea want to sign the English international this month.
The Blues spent a lot in the summer transfer window, but Rice was the only target who got away.
In fact, Chelsea has been wondering what might have happened to Rice for several years. He previously went through their academy ranks, but left for West Ham at the age of 14.
Speaking of the player, Ferdinand admits he’s a huge Rice fan, but admits that a move to Chelsea seems much more likely.
“I don’t think it will go through this window, I think it will stay there for the rest of the season. I don’t think I’m the type of kid who’s going to push to leave right now, ”Ferdinand told his FIVE Youtube Channel.
“If it happens, it will be between the clubs. I don’t think he’s the one instigating it.
“I think he’s a pretty laid-back guy in that sense, but he’s a motivated guy. He is someone who wants to succeed, improve and improve.
“He’s like a sponge, he asks you questions when you talk to him: ‘What was your time like?’ It reminds me of myself in that sense.
“He asks questions like, ‘What was it like training with him?’ He wants to know everything because he wants to outdo himself. You can’t blame a kid like that.
“Good luck to him. I think it is inevitable that he leaves, but I think, if I am realistic, that he will go in the summer. And I think it would be for Chelsea if he had his wish.”

West Ham wants to preserve rice
Reports have indicated that it would cost at least £ 80 million to remove Rice from West Ham. However, his current club is struggling to keep it.
There has been talk of a new contract for the young man, which would include a significant salary increase. However, the report of Mirror says there has been no update on that front yet.
Therefore, offers could be submitted to test West Ham’s determination, although they would still be looking for an expensive fee.
Rice remains under contract until 2024, with the option of one more year. Therefore, there is little pressure on West Ham to accept his new contract, even if they wanted to give him guarantees on his salary package.
