According to The Daily TelegraphGermany’s top-flight Schalke are preparing for a Liverpool bid for Turkish international center-back Ozan Kabak in January.
The Anfield giants are light at the rear following the long-term injuries of center-back duo Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, while Joel Matip has also struggled to stay in consistent shape.
Schalke are open to selling Kabak for the right price, but will ask Belgian striker Divock Origi for a share if an offer comes through.
The 25-year-old is also wanted by Wolverhampton Wanderers in January as they look to cover for the injured Raúl Jiménez. and Liverpool reportedly value him at around £ 20 million.
Reds coach Jurgen Klopp is expected to bring in another center-back next month to increase his team’s chances of successfully defending their Premier League title and challenging hard in all other competitions.
As a result, they are looking for five to six potential options, but will only make a move when the deal is right for them.
The 20-year-old is considered one of the best under-23 center-backs in Europe, and shouldn’t struggle with the demands of playing for Liverpool should a move be resolved.
Schalke are currently bottom of the Bundesliga table after nine losses and four draws in 13 games, and they want to land a striker next month to increase their scoring chances and turn their fortunes around.
They think Origi could be a good addition, but convincing him to trade Anfield for a relegation battle in Germany could be difficult.
The wolves and other costumes will also be coming for his signing in January, and while he is expected to leave to get much-needed playing minutes before next summer’s European Championships, joining Schalke might not appeal to him.
