According to The TelegraphLiverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri and Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose could join Newcastle United this month with Magpies manager Steve Bruce in search of a creative winger and forward.
While the club doesn’t have a lot of money to spend on the winter transfer window, owner Mike Ashley might be ready to approve some incoming deals if some unwanted players can be moved.
Newcastle is likely to rely solely on loan deals as Bruce looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the season, and the aforementioned duo could leave their clubs this month.
Rose was banned from the Spurs Premier League team and allowed to train and play for the team’s under-23s.
He will become a free agent at the end of the season, and although he may choose to stay in North London until the summer, he could be eager to return to Newcastle to play for the first team.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at St. James’ Park, and a comeback could be at stake.
Bruce wants quality competition and coverage for Jamal Lewis given Paul Dummett’s injury woes, and Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Jetro Willems is desperate to return to Newcastle.
PAOK left-back Dimitris Giannoulis will be offered to the Magpies once again, and it’s safe to say that the club will not be short of left-back options in the days ahead.
Shaqiri was linked with Newcastle during the summer transfer window, and could be eager to join after struggling to play minutes at Anfield so far this season.
The 29-year-old has only made three Premier League appearances in 2020-21, all coming off the bench and totaling 52 minutes.
Shaqiri will surely play regularly for a team like Newcastle given his quality, and it will be interesting to see if a move will work out this month.
