Lucas Vázquez has promised that Real Madrid “will continue to fight to the end” in the LaLiga title race, but admits that Atlético de Madrid has the upper hand.
Vázquez scored the first goal in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Celta de Vigo on Saturday when Zinedine Zidane’s team claimed the top spot for the first time since October.
Following a three-game losing streak in six games, their lead slipped in November, but Real are now just one point ahead of Atleti, although Diego Simeone’s team has three games short.
Real are defending champions and the most successful club in the competition, but although his team is at the top, Spanish attacker Vázquez admits that he does not think Zidane’s team has the advantage.
“The league has been very competitive. There are no easy games because all the teams make it difficult for us, ”said the 29-year-old.
“Atlético has the advantage, but we will continue to fight for everything until the end.”

Marcos Asensio scored the second goal at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium and Real Madrid recovered from losing points to humble Elche in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old forward scored his first goal of the 2020-21 campaign in the win over eighth-ranked Celta, having played seven starts and eight substitutes this season in LaLiga.
Asensio started on a front of three with Vázquez and Karim Benzema on Saturday and the Spanish international feels he can feel the effects when given playing time.
“It’s a long process, I knew it would be difficult but you start to have more minutes, more games under your belt and now we are seeing the results,” said Asensio.
