Real Madrid have had a mediocre start to the Spanish La Liga season by their standards and they hope to close the gap with Atlético de Madrid in the coming weeks.
The Real Madrid squad currently lacks depth and the Spanish giants should look to bring in a couple of players this month.
Key areas that need strengthening
The Spanish champions need more quality in central midfield and they should also look to invest in their attack.
They have relied too much on Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos to deliver each week. Players like Modric and Kroos are in their 30s and Los Blancos cannot afford to exhaust them with excessive playing time.
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has been leading Real Madrid’s attack since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club and it will be important for the Spanish side to find another quality attacker who can have an immediate impact.
Eden Hazard has struggled with injuries and loss of form since moving to the Santiago Bernabeu. Luka Jovic has also failed to establish himself as a starter.
Furthermore, players like Raphael Varane have not been impressive this season and Real Madrid could use an experienced addition to the rear.
They have linked up with people like David Alaba in the last few weeks and it will be interesting to see if they can get the signature done before the January window closes.
Luka Jovic has been linked to a loan out of the club. He needs to regain his sharpness with regular playtime and it will be interesting to see if he is allowed to move on this month.
