Blackpool may be set to lose star winger Josh Bowler this month to one of a series of Championship rivals, TEAMtalk understands.

The mandarins snatched the 22-year-old after leaving Everton this summer. He has been excellent for Neil Critchley this season.

Bowler signed an initial 12-month deal, but with an option on another that Blackpool are set to take to protect themselves.

Still, we understand that a host of Championship clubs are looking to win the Bowler – who can operate on both flanks.

Fulham, Blackburn, Stoke and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs ready to take a step.

Blackpool’s number 11 has started 16 championship games this season, coming in at 10 more. He has delivered one goal and three assists.

In addition, he scored once from his only substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup after previously starting one more match in an earlier round of that competition.

The Chertsey-born ace came through QPR’s academy before playing once for their first team. Han da got a switch to Everton, who never used him but loaned him to Hull City for the 2019-20 season.

He played 28 championship games in his first full taste of a season in the second row. Bowler has built up a lot more experience since leaving Everton as a free agent for Blackpool.

However, it remains to be seen how long he will stay at Bloomfield Road. All four of his other suitors in the Championship are currently in a superior league position.

Blackburn are currently second in the table in hopes of sealing automatic promotion. Fulham are in the play-offs and aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Stoke and Forest are eighth and ninth, respectively, with plenty of time to make terrain in the top six.

Blackpool themselves have a good season and sit in the middle of the table. But there are clubs that could give Bowler the next platform on which he can express his talents.

Critchley comments on Josh Bowler’s future

Earlier this month, there were reports that Blackpool rejected a bid from Forest for Josh Bowler.

Despite this, Critchley admitted that The Tangerines do not want to sell their star artist this transfer window.

Talking to Blackpool gazette, Critchley said: “I do not want to confirm anything or get involved in speculation. That would be wrong.

“Silly season has started today, right?

“You just have to look at how Josh played today [on New Year’s Day against his former side Hull City] to see that it did not affect him. Because I thought he was amazing.

“He’s been great for us this season, so we want to keep him in this football club.”
