Paul Pogba felt that Harry Maguire was mistakenly denied a beautiful goal, but he praised Manchester United for keeping a cool head to reach the top of the Premier League.
United captain Maguire thought he had led United to a first-half lead against Burnley only for referee Kevin Friend to controversially judge that he had fouled Erik Pieters in the process.
The VAR backed that decision and for a time it seemed that United would be frustrated in their bid for victory.
But Pogba hit a sweet cross from Marcus Rashford with 19 minutes remaining and his volley beat home goalkeeper Nick Pope with the help of a deflection from Matthew Lowton.
It gave United a 1-0 victory that takes them three points away from Premier League champions Liverpool before the massive clash between the two teams at Anfield on Sunday.
“It was a sure goal, I don’t know what happened,” Pogba said of Maguire’s overruled header, which came shortly after VAR stepped in to cancel a Robbie Brady foul, rather than penalize Luke Shaw.
“It was a beautiful goal and the referee decided no. It was a strange decision, but we got the result we wanted, so we are happy.
“Obviously it’s tough but you have to be professional and we know that it wasn’t going to be easy with the referee’s decision with which I didn’t agree.
“But I’m not the boss on the pitch so we have to stay calm and focus and of course we scored and won the game.”

United are leading this stage of the season for the first time since Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge, when he won the title.
But after just 17 games in the top flight, Pogba reminded his teammates that there is still a lot of work to do.
“You can see that the game went both ways, it is very difficult to play here,” added the man of the match Pogba, who had game maximums in touches (104), completions (70) and punts (five).
“They have a very strong style of play and we knew it would be difficult.
“We had to keep our heads calm and focus on ourselves and wait for the goal to come and it did. It was a great performance from everyone, good focus.
“Always happy when I win, we win and I am happy to have played well. There is still a long way to go and we have big games to go, so we have to focus on that.
“We got all three points and we are happy about that, but there is still a long way to go and now we are concentrating again until the end of the season.”
