Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino insisted that Kylian Mbappé’s underperforming performance wasn’t the only culprit in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Monaco.
Fit Monaco stunned Ligue 1 champion PSG in a blow to their title hopes as the Parisians slipped four points behind leader Lille with 12 games to play.
PSG have already lost six Ligue 1 games this season, their worst record in a single campaign since the start of the Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) era in 2011 / -2, and their worst since the 2010-11 campaign (eight ).
Mbappé made world headlines midweek with his hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League, but Monaco went the extra mile to minimize his impact on the French capital.
Pochettino, however, jumps to the defense of Mbappé, who is still linked to Real Madrid, LaLiga champion.
“Today, it is not only Kylian but the whole team that has not been at the level,” Pochettino said after the game.
“That didn’t show what it takes to win. But like I said, the first person in charge is the manager and I take responsibility.
“When you lose, the first person responsible is the manager and I fully assume it.”

PSG dominated possession, while they had edged Monaco 10-5, but only got it right once, leaving Pochettino lamenting his ability to kill rivals, just days after putting Barcelona four in the tie opener. round of 16.
Pochettino’s PSG have not won in their four games against the other teams currently in the top four positions in Ligue 1 this season, only getting one point out of a possible 12.
“Every game is different,” the former Tottenham and Southampton manager told reporters. “We cannot repeat the exact same performance every night. It is obvious that we have not been good enough.
“Monaco did well both times. That is what happened. Monaco had two chances and scored twice. “On our side we dominate, but without being able to score and kill the rival.”
PSG will look to bounce back when they take on bottom bottom Dijon on Saturday.
