Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min scored as Tottenham booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 2-0 win over Brentford.
The Spurs were ahead early when Sissoko took advantage of a weak mark to finish off Sergio Reguilon’s cross.
The hosts turned down several opportunities to double their lead and were almost forced to pay for their waste when Ivan Toney pushed home from a corner, only for the goal to be scored offside.
Minutes later, the Spurs left the game out of the question with Son finishing off a smooth counterattack to secure his team’s trip to Wembley in April. Brentford’s night got even worse when Josh Dasilva was sacked for a dangerous tackle on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with ten minutes to go.
Here are Tottenham North London player ratings …
Hugo Lloris (GK) – 7/10 – Forced to two saves, both of which he completed with minimal fuss. His clean sheet was saved by the width of Ivan Toney’s knee.
Serge Aurier (RB) – 7/10 – Some crazy moments, but generally solid. Made three blocks.
Davinson Sanchez (CB) – 8/10 – Incredibly strong in the air, winning four aerial duels in total.
Eric Dier (CB) – 8/10 – Another solid display of the ever present Spurs. Tidy in possession and solid on defense, posting five punts.
Sergio Reguilon (LB) – 8/10 – The delivery of the goal was absolutely magnificent. It provided a similar level of attack intent throughout the night.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) – 8/10 – Really impressive display. His ability to regain possession was incredible. Overall, he completed five tackles and two interceptions.
Moussa Sissoko (CM) – 8/10 – He marvelously guided his header to the back of the net. It also showed a great industry.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) – 7/10 – He assisted Son’s goal with a skillful pass. He was quite dangerous at all times, causing problems with his dribbling. Denied an own goal by the width of the post.
Lucas Moura (RW) – 6/10 – He had a quiet game. He struggled to get into action and Rico Henry kept him busy defensively.
Harry Kane (ST) – 6/10 – Not his most influential game going forward, but he did well to help defense when necessary. He missed a decent chance to make it 3-0.
Heung-min Son (LW) – 8/10 – Decided the match with a devastating goal. His importance to this Spurs team cannot be overstated.
Harry Winks – 6/10 – I made no mistakes after entering. Helping the Spurs run out of time.
