The Nigerian forward continued his scoring streak in the Belgian top flight on Thursday night.
Paul Onuachu scored his 20th goal in the Belgian First Division A when Genk settled for a 1-1 draw against Gent.
After failing to score in Genk’s 2-0 loss to Royal Excel Mouscron on Saturday, the 26-year-old returned to the score sheet with the first goal at Luminus Arena in the seventh minute.
He benefited from the assistance of Theo Bongonda, but his opening match was short-lived as Roman Yaremchuk tied Gent in first-half injury time.
Onuachu’s 20th goal in its 21st league outing of the season increased its dominance at the top of the First Division A scorers table.
The Nigeria international, however, did not last long on the field, as he was replaced in the 31st minute, while compatriot Cyril Dessers and Eboue Kouassi of the Ivory Coast were introduced as substitutes in the 85th minute.
Also in action at the Luminus Arena were Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui from Cameroon, Nurio Fortuna from Angola, Sulayman Marreh from Gambia, Anderson Niangbo from Ivory Coast and Osman Bukari from Ghana, who played in Ghent.
Genk is still second in the Belgian top flight table despite a tie with 39 points from 22 matches, but is behind leading Club Brugge by nine points, while Gent is 13th in the standings with 27 points.
Next up for Genk from Onuachu and Dessers is a league trip to Club Brugge on Sunday, after which they will host Zulte-Waregem at Luminus Arena on January 27.
