Alvaro Odriozola has joined Fiorentina from Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal.
The full-back is heading to Serie A after failing to establish himself at the Santiago Bernabeu since moving to Madrid from Real Sociedad in July 2018.
Odriozola has only started 27 league games for Los Blancos, while spending the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Bayern Munich.
The Spanish international played 16 matches under former boss Zinedine Zidane in all competitions last term, including getting off the bench in Champions League matches against Liverpool and Chelsea in the knockout stages.
His chances came on, however, due to injuries to first-choice Dani Carvajal and winger Lucas Vazquez filling in on the right side of the defense.
The 25-year-old is once again temporarily leaving LaLiga in search of regular minutes, this time for Italy, as he joins Fiorentina until June 2022.
Odriozola’s arrival follows midfielder Lucas Torreira, who signs on loan from Premier League side Arsenal, while Matija Nastasic has returned for another season, with the center-back making 29 appearances during his first season at the club.
