Paul Merson is convinced that defender Antonio Rudiger will leave Chelsea next year due to connections to several top clubs across Europe.

Rudiger, 28, is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. The German national team player joined the Blues from Roma in the summer of 2017 for £ 29 million. His five-year deal expires at the end of the campaign and Chelsea want him to sign new terms.

But it’s the two parties far apart in terms of details of a new deal. It was reported earlier this week that West Londoners had offered Rudiger £ 7 million net a year.

That figure is said to have been treated as a ‘slap in the face’ by Rudiger, according to Bild. And it has been there different opinions in the media whether he stays or goes.

The goal suggests that the powerful stepper has ‘no intention’ of signing a new contract. However, trusted transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the midfield is “happy” at Chelsea and would “love” staying with the European champions.

Former Arsenal and England striker Merson has now given his opinion on the matter. And the Sky Sports expert left no one in doubt about the former Stuttgart star’s plans.

“Chelsea are going to miss Antonio Rudiger when he leaves because it will take £ 60-70 million to replace him,” he told the Daily Star. Echo. “Rudiger is definitely leaving. If he had signed a new contract, he would have done so now. There is no chance he will stay now.

“Teams will line up around the block now to sign him, and someone will pay him a truckload of money to join them.”

Liverpool linked with the Rudiger move

Tottenham are thought to be keen to sign Rudiger if he becomes available next summer. But the North Londoners are not the only club with their eyes on him.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are interested by landing the German. Los Blancos have not yet filled the void left by the late Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool are reportedly also in the picture despite their abundance of center-backs. Manager Jurgen Klopp can call on Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahim Konate to anchor his back squad.

But with Rudiger possibly available on a free transfer, it could be difficult for Klopp to resist swelling in his defensive ranks. Rudiger has started 13 of Chelsea’s 14 league games in 2021-2022.

And he has helped the Stamford Bridge outfit get to the top of the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Ham.
