Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb said he doesn’t “know what to expect” from former teammate and Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield ahead of the Week 1 game.

Looking at the Week 1 schedule for the 2022 season, one of the most intriguing matchups based on drama will be between the Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers. That’s because the Browns passed on Baker Mayfield in favor of Deshaun Watson and traded him to the Panthers in July. Mayfield was named the starter for the Panthers, and now gets the chance to take on his former team.

Before the game, Chubb was asked what he would expect from Mayfield in the season opener. The running back said that while they all know Mayfield, “I don’t know what to expect.”

Nick Chubb says “I don’t know what to expect” from Baker Mayfield

“We all know Baker, so I don’t know what to expect,” Chubb said, h/t Akron Beacon Journal . “He always has that underdog attitude, so I’m sure he’ll be ready. I’m sure he’ll be hyped and pumped without the media. It’s still a football game for us.”

Over in Carolina, Mayfield was asked who he wants to receive a hug from between Chubb and defensive lineman Myles Garrett. Mayfield responded with Chubb before saying he said something “would be nice too.”

Mayfield won’t have to contend with Watson, the quarterback he replaced. Watson is currently suspended for 11 games and fined $5 million due to the multiple sexual assault and misconduct allegations made by several women. Starting for the Browns in his place will be Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

In his final official season with the Browns, Mayfield threw for 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his passes in 14 games.

Football fans will be watching the Browns-Panthers game to see if there will be any game day drama.
