Newcastle have added RB Salzburg striker Noah Okafor to their list of potential attack signings this month, TEAMtalk understands.

The Magpies face a hugely crucial transfer window in January across the pitch. The defense was an obvious concern, and they have it subsequently added English right-back Kieran Trippier to their ranks.

But after a calf injury to main striker Callum Wilson, a new striker has become a major priority.

Reports have claimed that a number of targets are now on Newcastle’s transfer radar. In fact, Liverpool’s Divock Origi and Bamba Dieng from Marseille is reportedly among them.

However, TEAMtalk has now learned that Salzburg’s Okafor is a potential option.

The 21-year-old moved from Basel in his home country, Switzerland, to Austria in January 2020.

Okafor scored three goals in his first half of the season in Salzburg as he gained momentum at the club. Last season, meanwhile, he finished the campaign with six goals and six assists in 29 outings in all tournaments.

After injuries put him back last campaign, he has hit the ground running this season. In fact, he has already matched his best number on six league goals.

Okafor has played 14 of 18 Bundesliga matches this season, starting just six and coming off the bench in the other eight. Nevertheless, his longest run without a goal is three games as he continues to impress.

Okafor made his international debut in the 2019 Nations League third-place play-off against England. He made two more outings for his country in the most recent international break in November, where he recorded a goal and an assist.

TEAMtalk understands that intermediaries with connections to the player have told Newcastle he could be available this month. In addition, Okafor is open for a move to England.

Newcastle have therefore not ruled out a switch to the striker as they are considering two new signatures at the top before the window closes.

However, the defense – especially the central defense – remains an urgent concern for Newcastle.

Reports have claimed that Magpies is after Lilles Sven Botman.

They have had one bid rejected, but now they have reportedly gone in again with a fresh offer.

Little does not want to let Botman go, but reports have claimed he has a price on his head.
