Newcastle transfer target Gleison Bremer is reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich as the German titans appear to replace Niklas Sule in defense.
Newcastle were hoping to spend some of their newfound wealth on Bremer during the January transfer window. Magpies scouts reportedly identified the Brazilian as an ideal signing to improve Eddie Howe’s options for central defense.
According to reports in Italy, Newcastle were willing to spend € 30 million (£ 25m) to bring Bremer from Turin.
But the Serie A club rejected any approach for the 24-year-old as he is one of their most important players. Torino also began contract talks to try to end the interest altogether.
ESPNquoting German outlet Sport 1, claims that Bremer could still secure a transfer this summer. But it is unlikely to involve Newcastle.
This is because the defender is reportedly in negotiations for a move to Bayern. The Bundesliga champions hope to sign a € 15 million (£ 12.5 million) deal with Turin.
They have been monitoring his progress for some time and have decided that now is the time to act.
Gleison Bremer could take the next step
Bremer may well be tempted by the shift. That would give him the opportunity to play in the Champions League for the first time. He played in Turin’s Europa League qualifier campaign in 2019-20, but they failed to reach the group stage after losing to Wolves in the playoffs.
Bayern want Bremer to replace German national team player Sule, as the influential midfielder will take on rivals Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
He will move to Westfalenstadion on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said: “We are delighted that we were able to sign a German international in Niklas Sule and keep him for four years.”
Newcastle had also been in the frame to pick up Sule, but they could not match Dortmund’s ambitions or traction.
Newcastle tipped to complete transfer transfer
Meanwhile, Brazilian icon Rivaldo wants Newcastle to take a step towards signing Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale on a free transfer this summer.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Bale’s contract will not be renewed.
Speaking on behalf of Betfairthrough The sunRivaldo said: “I think he [Bale] could even stay in Spain if a good offer comes from a club with European ambitions.
“But the most likely scenario should be a return to England for a league he knows well. But it’s also more demanding than anything else.
“I certainly do not want to rule out a move to Newcastle. As I think there is a chance they can convince him to return to the top tier as one of the team’s stars next season, in what will probably be a very interesting squad.
“As a 32-year-old, he can still play for a while if he wants to follow in the footsteps of others like Cristiano Ronaldo, Thiago Silva or even myself.”
