Moussa Dembele has completed his move from Lyon to Atlético de Madrid, with the French team choosing Islam Slimani from Leicester as a replacement.
At the beginning of this week speculation arose that Dembélé was heading to Atlético, who were looking for a replacement for Diego Costa.
The former Celtic striker had been linked to various Premier League clubs, most recently West Ham, but no move to England materialized.
Instead, he headed to Spain, and Atlético have already confirmed his signing.
Dembélé joins the leaders of La Liga on loan until the end of the season for 1.5 million euros. They have the option to buy it for 33.5 million euros, plus a possible bonus of 5 million euros.
The 24-year-old has only scored one goal this season, but has previously been prolific in Ligue 1. In total, he has scored 45 goals for the club in 108 games.
Now you can show La Liga what you can do.
Slimani joins Lyon as a substitute
Lyon has wasted no time finding a replacement for Dembélé. They have announced the signing of Islam Slimani in a free transfer from Leicester.
Slimani never lived up to what was expected of him at Leicester, scoring 13 goals in 48 games. He only played in one game for them this season, coming in as a substitute against Aston Villa in October.
Thus, Leicester was willing to let the Algerian leave for nothing, despite shelling out a club record of £ 28 million for him in 2016.
The 32-year-old was not part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans, so he will now return to France, where he spent a successful stint on loan with Monaco last season.
