Mikel Arteta has been questioned about Arsenal’s recent streak of poor discipline and red cards under his leadership.
Arsenal’s failures of late have been covered in great detail, with Arteta’s men taking just the two wins since October and ranking 15th in the table heading into a tricky set of upcoming matches.
What hasn’t helped Arsenal’s cause in the slightest is their inability to keep eleven men on the playing field, and the Gunners have sent off three players in their last five games, a fairly recent record.
It will undoubtedly be a concern for Arteta, who too often is forced to cope with his hands tied behind his back. Taking his press conference before this weekend’s clash with Everton, he was questioned on the matter.
Arteta said, quoted by Caught offside On twitter:
“Well, I said the other day that I think we have seven red cards since I joined. Two disciplinary, and the rest is for different actions. The last one with Gabi is 22 years old and is settling in the Premier League, don’t forget that. And they were two very different actions, but obviously we cannot afford it at the moment because the level of the Premier League is too high and the margins for us at the moment are too small to win or lose football matches ”.
