English midfielder Jack Wilshere appears to be playing in Serie A this season after not being offered a place in England.
Wilshere has been going through a difficult time over the last few years due to injuries. Ankle and groin problems have limited him to just 37 appearances over the last three seasons. His most recent period was in Bournemouth, which he joined in January. He regularly came off the bench for the Championship club, but did not do enough to justify an extension of his contract, making him a free agent.
In August, Wilshere opened up about his situation during an interview with David Ornstein of The athlete. He revealed how he was questioned by his son over his lack of suitable offers.
The 29-year-old, confined on 34 occasions by England, recently started training with Serie B clothing Como. He was offered to connect with them by Como director Dennis Wise.
However, the Brexit rules mean he can not sign for the club permanently. He is instead waiting on a Serie A side to take a hit on him.
“I had an important career and some good moments, but my time in England is over,” Wilshere said Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italy).
“I have a bad reputation there due to injuries. I’m looking for new challenges, people who have faith in me and another chance to prove what I can do, which is what all players ultimately want.
“I would happily join an Italian club immediately if I had the chance. The experience at Como is positive, so I think I would quickly settle down. Admittedly, it is very different, as you work more with tactics here, and all the players have fantastic technique. In England there is not so much quality, it’s more about playing hard. ”
“Those who can stay in England as they are close to family, earn well and the league is the best. I can only speak for myself, and the time has come for me to try something else, maybe in Italy, maybe in Spain, then we’ll see. ”
The player revealed that he is still in contact with former Arsenal teammates Aaron Ramsey and Wojciech Szczesny, who now represents Juventus.
He is a huge admirer of the Italian legend Andrea Pirlo, who won league titles with AC Milan and Juve during a glittering career.
“At the 2014 World Cup, Roy Hodgson asked me to mark Pirlo because he was 35 years old at the time and quite old. It turned out he was Match of Man, he always managed to shake me off somehow. ”
Who won the transfer window? Aston Villa? Man Utd? Daniel Levy? …
Juve announce Kean catch
Juventus have it in the meantime re-signed young forward Moise Kean from Everton. The 21-year-old was sent back to Turin after scoring just four goals in 39 games for Toffees.
