Matty Longstaff has returned to Newcastle after the end of his loan spell at Aberdeen. The 21-year-old spent six months at the Scottish club and made just five appearances in total. The last of them was on November 20, when Aberdeen lost 1-0 away to Dundee United. Before taking off, he had scored three goals in 20 games for his parent club.
It will be interesting to see what manager Eddie Howe has in store for the youngest of the Longstaff brothers. Newcastle are now, of course, able to spend significant money on the transfer market and it looks like Matty Longstaff will take out on yet another temporary move to try to get some much-needed first-team minutes under his belt. Derby County is said to be interested in welcoming him for the next six months.
Longstaff is a well-rounded central midfielder, but there is still plenty of room for progress and it may be some time before the Magpies start relying on his quality in the Premier League.
