Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has been discussing the biggest influences on his fledgling career so far, having signed a new contract with the club.

When asked to identify those who had the greatest impact on him in a BT sport Interview with Rio Ferdinand, the attacker named two people who are currently at the club and explained the reasons.

He said, “Marcus [Rashford] definitely [is] one and Kieran McKenna, United’s assistant coach, because he [gave] a chance on the youth team. He put me two years to play in the youth team, so [he] put a lot of faith in me there.

“Marcus has really done it all, [he’s come] through the ranks like I’ve really done, so he knows how it goes so he always helped me and talked to me and told me about the challenges and what to expect from the first team. “

Earlier this week, it was announced that the 19-year-old signed a new contract with the Red Devils that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2025. Having scored 21 goals in 82 first-team appearances, you can understand why the club has moved to secure the services of long-term academy graduates.

Rio Ferdinand asked Greenwood if his style of play had been influenced by anyone outside Manchester United, and the forward revealed that he used to watch videos of a certain Brazilian forward over and over again.

“One player I used to watch was R9, the Brazilian Ronaldo, I would always watch videos and clips of him in the car, always coming to train literally every day. He used to do [his step overs] in the goalkeeper and in the players. I used to pick it up and literally used to do what I used to do, feint shots and steps, and now it just sticks to me. ”

Manchester United will face Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night as they look to gain an advantage to take Old Trafford for the second leg, and Greenwood is likely involved.

BT Sport is the only place to watch the UEFA Europa League, including Real Sociedad v Man Utd on BT Sport 2 starting at 5.30pm tonight. Watch the full episode of Rio Meets on the YouTube channel BT Sport.
